Shingle roofing
The roof most homes here should have
For most homes, asphalt shingle roof replacement offers the best balance of cost, curb appeal and durability. It handles central Pennsylvania’s freeze-thaw winters well and suits almost every style of home.
We install Atlas shingles with proper underlayment, flashing and ventilation, so your roof sheds water, handles winter weather and looks clean and even from the street. Whether you’re replacing an aging roof before selling your home, or you just want to stop worrying every time it rains, a new shingle roof is a smart upgrade.
What goes on your roof
Seven layers, top to bottom
A shingle roof is a system. Skip a layer, and the roof usually doesn’t last as long as it should.
01
Ridge vent & cap shingles
Lets hot, damp attic air out along the peak, finished with matching cap shingles.

02
Atlas architectural shingles
Atlas laminated field shingles, nailed to the manufacturer’s pattern.
Weather
03
Starter strip
A sealed first course along the eaves and rakes, so the edge can’t lift in a storm.
Edges
04
Drip edge
Metal edging that throws water clear of the fascia and into the gutter.

05
Synthetic underlayment
A tear-resistant second barrier across the whole deck, under every shingle.
Deck
06
Ice & water shield
A self-sealing membrane at the eaves, valleys and around chimneys, where ice dams do their damage.

07
Roof deck
Inspected before anything new goes on. Damaged decking is repaired where needed.

Choosing a shingle
Three grades, honestly compared
We install Atlas architectural shingles on most homes. Here’s why, and when the other two make sense.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3-tab shingle | 15–20 yrs | 60–70 mph | Flat, uniform | $ |
| Architectural (dimensional) | 25–30 yrs | 110–130 mph | Layered, shadowed | $$ |
| Designer / luxury | 30–50 yrs | 110–130 mph | Slate or shake look | $$$ |

Questions
Shingle roofing questions
Shingle replacement is quoted per job after a free on-site inspection. The honest price depends on the roof’s size and pitch, how many old layers come off, and what the deck looks like underneath. Shingle repairs we price up front: leak detection from $150, emergency repair from $200 and storm damage from $350.
Architectural shingles typically last 25–30 years in central Pennsylvania when the system is installed properly and the attic is ventilated. Poor ventilation is one of the most common reasons shingles fail early.
If the shingles are sound and the problem is in one spot (flashing around a chimney, a few missing shingles, storm damage on one slope), a repair is usually right. If we see widespread aging that would make constant patching a waste of money, we’ll tell you honestly and walk you through planning a replacement.
It depends on the size and pitch of the roof and the weather. You’ll get a schedule you’ve agreed to before any work begins.
Yes. We’ll help you choose an Atlas shingle color that suits your home’s siding and trim.
No. We protect your property while we work, and we finish with a detailed cleanup and a final walkthrough with you.
